Ormond Ballet is kicking off their 3rd annual Nutcracker Production in Volusia County! This year we are upping the game by creating an immersive experience by using state of the art technology such as jumbo video projections, immersive spacial audio, practical effects, and artistically elevated performers. That’s where you may come in!

We are looking for a wide range of performers for this year's production. Ballet dancers, character dancers, acrobats, silk performers, and character actors. If this sounds like you, we encourage you to sign up for auditions.

Auditions will be held August 18, 2023 from 5:00pm - 9:00pm.

Step 1:

Carefully read through the “role types” to see which roles best fit your talents. You can find this list below. Expand each item for details. When filling out the registration form you will check any of the roles you feel you will perform well in.

Step 3:

After completing the form, we will send you a detailed schedule for the audition day and what to expect for the roles you will be considered for. An Ormond Ballet team member may reach out for some clarifying questions.

  • Clara Stahlbaum: a female dancer, ages 11-14, with at least 3 years on pointe, 5 years of strong classical ballet technique, and strong acting ability.

    Nutcracker: a male dancer, ages 14-18, with at least 2 years of strong classical ballet technique and at least 1 year of partnering experience preferred. Needs to have a strong stage presence.

    Drosselmeyer: a male actor or dancer , age 16+, with strong stage presence and storytelling ability. This is a key role as they play the narrator of the whole ballet.

    Rat Empress or Rat King: a female or male dancer, ages 15+. Needs to be a strong mover. Being able to do some tricks, acrobatics, and tumbling would be a plus. Needs strong stage presence.

  • Ages 16+

    These roles are the major supporting roles for the Leads listed above. Each of these dancers will lead their sections of the ballet. Female soloists will require a minimum of 4 years on pointe and 8 years of strong classical ballet technique. Male soloists will require a minimum of 2 years of partnering experience and 6 years of strong classical ballet technique. They need dancers who can command the stage. Preferably someone who has danced lead or soloist roles before.

  • Ages 13+

    These roles are leading roles in particular dances within the Party Scene, Snow Scene, and Kingdom of the Sweets Scene. Female demi-soloists need to have 3 years on pointe and at least 6 years of strong classical ballet technique and at least 6 years of strong classical ballet technique for males.

  • Ages 12+

    Being cast in a divertissement, will put you as part of the small ensembles alongside the lead for the particular divertissement. This requires at least 2 years on pointe and 5 years of strong classical ballet technique.

  • Ages 12+

    These dancers will be the ensemble in the Party Scene, Snow Scene, Opening of Act 2, and in Waltz of the Flowers. Corps de ballet dancers need a minimum of 2 years on pointe and 4 years of strong classical ballet technique.

  • Ages 5 - 10

    These roles need little to know prior dancing experience. We will work with you and train you to perform these roles. We would like to see some acting ability.

  • Ages 15+

    These roles are for community members and dancers who would like to join us but may not have as much dance training. We would like to see some acting ability as you will need to have stage presence.

  • Ages 14+

    We are looking tumblers, trick artists, silk performers, acrobats, and martial artists. We would also like to see some acting ability as you will need to have stage presence.

Additional information:

The registration deadline is midnight August 16th.

Time commitment will vary from a minimum of one rehearsal a week for 12 weeks to 6 rehearsals a week for 12 weeks. A rehearsal schedule will be given along with the casting.

Tech week is required November Monday 13th, Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th, Thursday 16th

Show days are November Friday 17th, Saturday 18th, Sunday 19th.
